Casa quetzal
Exclusive Punta del EstePunta del Este
If you’re looking for where to stay in PUNTA DEL ESTE, CHOOSE THIS STRIKING HOTEL WITH POOL TUCKED AMONGST ROLLING HILLS JUST TEN MINUTES FROM URUGUAY’S MOST EXCLUSIVE BEACH SPOTS
With a tasteful modern design built in local ochre-coloured stone, the nine-room hotel–plus four luxury safari tents imported from South Africa–overlooks a fifty-acre estate. It’s so serene. You’re minutes drive from world-class restaurants, wineries and beaches. But, gazing out over the bucolic countryside from the infinity pool, or snuggled in front of a roaring fire from an overstuffed sofa, you may find yourself choosing to stay onsite.
Everything has an understated elegance and glamour in this part of Uruguay. So it seems perfectly normal to learn that Casa Quetzal’s horseriding guide is a fashion photographer from Buenos Aires who now photographs the sleek steeds of Jose Ignacio.
At Casa Quetzal you’ll be received by the friendly owners. Juanchi and Delfina are from Argentina and live on site. Nicolas, the Uruguayan partner, and Delfina speak great English. They’re always available to make your stay more special.
What you should know
Due to the pandemic, the hotel is encouraging group bookings and providing half-board.
Halfboard is perfect as you can lunch at all the foodie destinations a short drive away. Then dine in and relax around the pool in summer and in front of the roaring fire in winter.
Exclusive use of the hotel, if your group includes ten or more. You are welcome to bring your own drinks and meat to throw on the grill at no extra charge. Staff lay and clear tables. Note, the kitchen is off limits.
Currently there are far more restaurant options available closeby than there would normally be off season. Wealthy Uruguayans–who would have normally travelled to Europe–and Argentinians are sitting out the pandemic in their country or beach properties.
Having a car is recommended, however Casa Quetzal offers transfers and there’s also Uber.
