TEAM HaverkateExceptional real estate brokers
Montevideo to Rocha
Ralph and Bettina of Team Haverkate were registered realtors in the US for almost 20 years before starting in Uruguay. Coming from a heavy regulated market, where everything has to be disclosed and contractually defined, they immediately saw where a foreign property buyer–not knowing the language and pitfalls–could be tripped up, or worse, taken advantage of.
So, unlike most realtors in Uruguay, Team Haverkate decided not to represent both sides. They only represent buyers. “After all,” says Ralph, “Clients hire us to represent their best interests. How can we do that when we are sitting on both sides of the table?”
Caveat Guru’Guay usually only recommends services that we have experienced first-hand. As we had not worked with Team Haverkate we interviewed a number of their clients–who ranged from a top TV producer to a Californian real estate consultant who prides himself on being extremely critical. And we were blown away. They all gave Team Haverkate a perfect 10. They raved about their professionalism, unflappability and great communication. Robert who was based in Hollywood during the purchase of his apartment in Punta del Este said, “the process was made so easy, I almost felt I had bought a place down the street.” Those now living full time in Uruguay count Ralph and Bettina amongst their friends.
What you should know
Ralph and Bettina are originally from Switzerland. They worked in real estate in California from 1996. In 2010, they visited Uruguay on vacation and fell in love. The country felt like Northern California but thirty years earlier. They liked the fact that Uruguay’s modern infrastructure made it feel ‘first world’ and that it is safe and politically stable. They also love the beaches and countryside–and prefer Uruguay summers to those in Palm Springs.
They speak your language Team Haverkate speak fluent English, German, Swiss-German, French and Dutch.
Their website Real Estate in Uruguay is one of the most comprehensive in the country with over 700 properties for sale between Montevideo and Rocha and detailed, up-to-date descriptions in English and German. They don’t only offer houses, apartments and farms but also historical properties, commercial, wineries and land.
They work the inventory of international realtors Engel & Voelkers In this way, they avoid a direct relationship with the sellers. If E&V doesn’t offer the desired property, Team Haverkate also has access to the inventory of other large licensed brokerages. So you don’t need to run around with five different brokers. They have access to everything on the market.
Paperwork translated Team Haverkate translate all important paperwork–such as pre-contracts and sales contracts–to avoid misunderstandings. They are unaware of any other company providing this invaluable service.
Post sale care A relationship with Team Haverkate doesn’t end at purchase. They help clients with major tasks like finding reputable constructors as well as finicky but essential tasks like opening bank accounts, registration with public services, relocation, household shipments and even school enrollment. They also offer property and employee management and bill payment services.
